Massillon, OH — We are excited to welcome Debra Heeter to the R2 Sealant Systems team as our new Director of Research & Development. With more than a decade of experience across C.A.S.E. technologies (Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, and Elastomers), sealant formulation, and advanced material innovation, Debra brings both technical depth and leadership that align perfectly with R2’s mission and continued growth.

A Career Rooted in R&D and Innovation

Debra’s career began with a strong focus on formulating advanced coating and adhesive systems for textiles used in the architectural, automotive, and aerospace industries. Debra explains, “My work included the development of plastisol, polyurethane, and UV-curable technologies, with applications including fire-resistant insulation, acoustic damping, and anti-static solutions.”

She later transitioned into the construction materials and sealant industry, where she spent six years leading R&D initiatives focused on high-performance materials. During this time, Debra worked extensively with advanced polymer, acrylic, silicone, and butyl chemistries to deliver reliable and innovative solutions for building applications.

Most recently, Debra expanded her experience into infrastructure and industrial projects, developing engineered solutions for unpaved road and gravel runway stabilization, dust suppression, Class A fire suppression foams, rail lubrication systems, and deicing technologies. Reflecting on her career path, Debra shares, “I am excited to have been given the opportunity to return to the C.A.S.E. industry, where I built a 13-year foundation, and to reconnect with former colleagues while supporting the continued growth of R2 Sealant Systems.”

Leading R&D at R2 Sealant Systems

Debra joins R2 as Director of R&D, a role that allows her to return to her core expertise while helping shape the future of R2’s sealant and adhesive development. Speaking about her decision, Debra explains, “I joined R2 Sealant Systems as Director of R&D, a role that offered a lateral transition while enabling me to return to my core expertise in C.A.S.E. technologies.”

In this role, Debra will help build and lead R2’s R&D department, supporting custom formulations, private-label sealant development, and innovative solutions designed to meet customer needs and support rapid growth.

What Makes a Strong Operations and R&D Team

Debra believes successful innovation starts with collaboration and clarity. “A strong and efficient operations team is built on clear communication, defined roles, and a shared commitment to safety and quality,” she says. Debra also emphasizes that “making decisions based on facts and promoting continuous improvement helps maintain consistency and long-term success.”

This mindset closely reflects R2’s approach to manufacturing, quality, and customer service.

What excites Debra most about joining R2 is the company’s momentum and culture. “I am excited most about joining a fast-growing company with a strong, team-oriented culture,” she shares. “I look forward to building an R&D department from the ground up, designed to support accelerated growth and deliver advanced solutions for our customers.”

Life Outside the Lab

Outside of work, Debra values balance and staying active. “I try to start most mornings with a workout to set a productive tone for the day,” she says. She also enjoys spending time with her family and their two dogs, Roxanne and Bettie, traveling with her husband, Josh (including a recent trip to Ireland), and taking advantage of summer weekends at hot rod shows. Hiking and recently returning to her horseback riding hobby round out her time outside the lab.

A Message to the R2 Community

Debra is already feeling at home at R2 and excited about what’s ahead. “It has been great reconnecting with many familiar faces at R2 and meeting new ones,” she says. “I already feel a strong sense of teamwork and look forward to continuing our collaboration to deliver quality products to our customers.”
